BofA, Wells Fargo step up mortgage modifications (Los Angeles Times)
A month after being shamed for helping relatively few borrowers, the two big banks report big gains. Among all lenders nationwide, more than 360,000 homeowners have gotten relief. The sluggish $75-billion federal mortgage relief program got a boost from Wells Fargo & Co. and Bank of America Corp., both of which stepped up their efforts last month to modify home loans.
